Capture enough information for the estimator, workroom, installer, and connected business workflow without measuring the same opening twice.
Identify the project, room, and opening
Use consistent room and opening names so the estimator, workroom, installer, and field user are discussing the same location. Include the designer, homeowner or site contact, address, and access notes.
Capture the opening and surrounding conditions
- Inside opening width at relevant positions
- Inside opening height
- Outside trim width and height
- Wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor dimensions
- Left and right clearances or stacking space
- Recess depth, returns, handles, crown molding, cabinets, and obstructions
- Electrical or motorization conditions
Measure for more than one possible treatment
When the client has not selected drapery, shades, valances, or hardware, keep multiple valid measurements on the same annotated photo. Do not force every option into one width and one height.
Photograph the details an installer will need
Capture the full opening, left and right conditions, mounting surface, obstructions, electrical locations, and access concerns. Categorize photos so someone can find the correct view months later.
Prepare the calculator handoff
